THIS IS HOW
WE DO IT

SWIM SESSIONS - F.A.Q'S

WHEN ARE YOUR OFFICES OPEN?

Our Office is closed on the weekends and bank holidays so responses may take a little longer at these times. We aren't able to do a waiting list as the booking system is quicker than we are! If the session you wish to book is full, keep checking the website for any cancellations.

AMENDING OR CANCELLING MY BOOKING?

This can be done in the members area of your account up to 24hrs prior to your session. Please cancel your booking and drop an e-mail to us. If it is less than 24hrs please state a reason and it will be at the discretion of management as to whether to refund you or reschedule your booking. In cases of Covid, please send us a picture of your test with your name written on the test kit. We will happily reschedule you session to an alternative date.

I HAVE BITES ON MY SKIN - WHAT ARE THEY?

During the warmer weather when the water is above 17 degrees, we have found that some people get swimmers itch. This is caused through little bites from duck mites (bit like mosquito bites), not everyone one will get bitten, but some may get bitten more than others. Antihistamine helps give a build up to the bites prior to swimming and may reduce itching if taken after. Tiger balm on the wrist and ankles (the white one|) helps before, and then Tiger balm again on the wrist and ankles or Sudocrem can help after. It's worth swimming a little further away from the reeds at the reservoirs edge and avoiding the hottest part of the day. Also don't stand for too long at the jetty area, get straight in and then straight out.

I HAVE NEVER SWAM IN OPEN WATER BEFORE, CAN I BOOK?

Yes!  We look forward to welcoming you to the open water! You will need to book an induction with us first, so we can make sure you are safe and happy swimming in the open water.  After your induction you can book online and join the group swims too!

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?

All swimmers in open water  need to have a tow float attached at all times.  We do strongly advise that you purchase your own, (if you purchase directly from Dippy Float send us an email and we can send you a discount code to use!)  If you don't have your own, please let us know 24 hours before your swim and we will endeavour to provide one for £2.  You will need to bring your normal swimming gear, and warm clothes for afterwards plus a towel!  We also advise that suitable footwear is worn in and around the lake.

DO I NEED A WETSUIT?

Experienced open water swimmers can choose, however we do strongly recommend that those swimming between the months of October and March do wear a wetsuit.

WHAT TIME SHOULD I ARRIVE?
Please arrive promptly at least 5 minutes prior to the time of your booking. Please note that arriving late will shorten the duration of your experience.

IS THERE A CHANGING AREA?
There is a small changing area as you enter the sauna to hang your robe and leave your belonging.
There is a door providing privacy and a heat trap for the sauna room.

CAN I PUT WATER ON THE STOVE?

Customers can manage the steam that rises from the sauna stove which controls heat and intensity. Water must be drizzled on and not dumped. Although adding water over the rocks humidifies the session and is one of the best aspects of the authentic sauna, please remember not to dump water on the rocks. Instead, drizzle water on with a
ladle intermittently until the heat reaches an appropriate level.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN ADIDNG WATER?

Dumping water on the stove will make the sauna feel hotter momentarily, but is actually counteractive in increasing the temperature of the room as the excessive water will cool down the sauna rocks.
